Do you have New Year's resolutions? Have you ever felt the overwhelming challenge of sticking to them in previous years? Maybe try thinking about your resolutions in terms of adventures! HeroMode is here to keep you organized and motivated on your 2025 journey!
As we head into the new year, many of us will be embarking on the annual tradition of setting new year's resolutions. Each year, in January, we are filled with excitement, enthusiasm, and ambition. "This is the year I'll finally get in shape / learn a new language / save money / clean out my storage / transform my life!"
But New Year's resolutions are notoriously difficult to stick to. The excitement of January is usually followed by a quick return to old habits, with a sprinkle of guilt.
I don't think it's healthy to end up feeling bad and underachieving. The most important thing about New Year's resolutions is getting into a sustainable mindset. What this translates to is a set of tips that are often repeated:
- Set realistic goals
- Break each goal into smaller, achievable pieces
- Consistency is more important than bursts of intensity
- Measure and track your progress
- Have an accountability buddy
These tips are all excellent, but difficult to put into practice. With HeroMode, however, we can turn New Year's resolutions into fun and organized adventures! Let me show you some examples.
Get Fit and Healthyโ
Fitness and health are two of the most popular New Year's resolutions. They are also popular use cases for HeroMode. Every HeroMode user I have spoken to have adventures dedicated to fitness and health.
And that's because HeroMode makes it really easy to turn a New Year's resolution like fitness into an adventure, especially using Adventure Templates.
Above: Creating a new adventure for fitness is easy peasy! You can pick from a variety of adventure templates, or create your own.
Within a HeroMode adventure, you can define quests. Quests are the specific action items you need to do. For a goal like fitness, it's important to make it recurring, so you build a habit.
In HeroMode, when you create a quest, you can schedule it to repeat on a regular basis.
Above: Creating a repeat quest is also easy peasy! You can set the quest to repeat on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. You can even repeat it on demand.
Now, every time you run three miles, you can mark the quest as complete. And this earns you points! Besides the dopamine rush of getting stuff done, you also get coins that you can use to redeem rewards, according to your own rules.

Staying Motivatedโ
Within HeroMode, there are many features to keep you motivated. For example, you can see how many times you have completed a repeat quest.
Seeing the number go up is always very satisfying!
HeroMode also has activity calendars, and streaks. So you are automatically tracking your progress. Once in a while, I would just look at my own stats and be happy of all the work I have accumulated.
Defining Milestonesโ
Within the fitness adventure, you can define "intermediate goals" that you can track. These are the meaningful milestones that takes time and many small steps. Setting milestones is also very easy within HeroMode.

Going on an Adventure with a Buddyโ
Peer pressure is another powerful motivator. In HeroMode, you can add buddies to an adventure. This way, you can see each other's progress, or even have a friendly competition!
Above: Adding a buddy to an adventure is, you guessed it, easy peasy! Simply enter your buddy's email address. If you are not sure what is your email address, you can see it in the Hero -> Manage Account screen.
Start Your 2025 Adventures!โ
When we think about New Year's resolutions, we think about these ambitious goals. But you know what's the most important thing?
Five minutes every day is better than several hours on January 1st.
It takes repetition to build new habits and new routines. To achieve our New Year's resolutions, we need to be consistent yet also realistic. Thinking about resolutions in terms of adventures prepares us for the long haul.
So give it a try! I hope you will have a joyful time keeping up with your resolutions this year, and celebrate every small step you take!
