HeroMode v6.16 release introduces Magic Assist.
Summary

In the newly released HeroMode v6.16, available now on the web and iOS, we introduce Magic Assist. Magic Assist makes it even easier to create a new quest: you can enter any text into the quest body, and Magic Assist will automatically select the correct adventure and create checkboxes for you!

If you also use voice input on your phone like me, you can create a nicely structured quest with checkboxes without having to type anything!

Yesterday we released HeroMode v6.16 on the web, and the iOS update is also now available. In this new release, we introduce Magic Assist, which makes it even easier to create a new quest!

Magic Assist

In v6.16, when you create a new quest, you will see a new "Magic Assist" button:

The new 'Magic Assist' button.

You can enter any text you'd like for the quest, just like before. But now, you don't have to type it exactly. You also don't have to pick adventure, or create checkboxes. Just "braindump" your quest, and then hit the Magic Assist button.

For example, every week I have to do grocery. And adding every item to the quest as a checkbox is quite tedious. We have made it easier by allowing users to keep adding checkboxes in one go, but still, that's a lot of typing and clicking.

With Magic Assist, I just let my stream-of-consciousness brain list out the grocery list. In fact, I don't even type it. On my phone, I just use the voice input and read out the items I need to buy. Here is a demo:

Read out the grocery list with voice input on my phone, and use Magic Assist to create a quest with all the checkboxes.

Breaking Down Big Tasks

One of the key motivators for completing a big goal is to break it down into smaller, digestable tasks. Each task shouldn't take more than, say, 15 minutes to complete. The idea is simple: completing a task feels good, so if you only celebrate after finishing a giant task that can take months, sooner or later your enthusiasm will be depleted. Better to have a bunch of smaller tasks so you can keep on celebrating.

However, creating many subtasks can be tedious. This is where Magic Assist can really shine.

For example, I always wish I'd read more books. But having one quest for each book means I won't be able to complete this quest for a while, usually weeks, or, embarrassingly, months. It makes me feel bad when I see a quest like "Read Guns Germs and Steel" hanging out in my quests list for months. It feels like I'm not making progress!

Now with Magic Assist, I can easily break down a book into multiple checkboxes. This means I can read a few pages at a time, and tick off a checkbox very often. This makes it clear I'm moving along, and encourages me to keep going.

Use Magic Assist to break down a book into one chapter for each checkbox.

Above: Use Magic Assist to break down a book into one chapter for each checkbox. This means every time I finish a chapter, I can tick off a checkbox and feel some encouragement! And again, I'm using voice input on my phone so I don't even have to type anything to create this quest.
