HeroMode v7.1 moves points and stats calculations from your device to our servers. The result? A much leaner app that loads faster and won't slow down your browser or phone.
The Problem
As HeroMode users complete more quests and build longer histories, the app had to work harder. Every time you opened the app, it would load your entire quest history and calculate stats on your device. For power users with thousands of completed quests, this meant:
- High memory usage - The web app could consume over 1GB of browser memory
- Slow load times - Waiting several seconds for the app to become responsive
- Busy client - Your device doing heavy calculations instead of our servers
Why This Update Was Personal
I've been using HeroMode since 2022 - four years of quests, adventures, and data. As both the developer and a power user, I've accumulated... a lot. When I'd show HeroMode to friends, there was always that awkward pause while the app loaded my years of productivity history. "It's usually faster," I'd say, watching the loading spinner. On the web app, Chrome would "helpfully" notify me that this tab was using high memory. Thanks, Chrome. I wasn't embarrassed or anything.
How We Got Here
Over the years, we've added features that make HeroMode more fun but also more data-intensive. The Piggy reward system in 2023 introduced coins tracking. Leveling up in v6.3 brought progress stats. Each feature meant more data to load and more calculations on your device - great for insights, not so great for performance.
The Fix
With v7.1, we've moved all the heavy lifting to our cloud infrastructure. Your device now receives pre-calculated stats instead of raw data.
