We have released a new version of the HeroMode web app with improved quest quick action experience! Now, to reveal the quest quick actions, simply click on the quest card. Click on the left hand side of the card to reveal the quick actions on the left hand side. Click on the right hand side of the card to reveal the quick actions on the right hand side. And, to go to the quest detail page, simply click on the middle of the quest card!
About a month ago, we received an excellent feature suggestion from a HeroMode user. This user primarily uses HeroMode as a web app, and they'd like it to be easier to complete a quest. At that time, to get to the quest completion button, one would have to "drag" a quest card to reveal it. The card also closes automatically, something that we thought is a nice "clean up" feature, but in reality, can be annoying if you have to open it again.
I was so thrilled to get this user feedback, because I also feel this pain! I use HeroMode both as a mobile app (when I'm on the go) and a web app (when I'm in front of a computer). And I 100% agree that, on the web, the "drag to reveal" mechanism is simply not as intuitive and convenient.
Cross-Platform: Consistency vs Delightful Experience
Turns out, a delightful user experience might require different mechanisms on different platforms. Not only is the screen size different on mobile and web, but also the way we interact with the app is different. On a mobile app, we use our fingers to tap and swipe. On a web app, we use a mouse to click and drag.
More subtly, swiping on a mobile device is pretty effortless. It's one seemless motion. On the web, however, dragging is broken down into two steps: click, and then holding on to the mouse button while moving the mouse.
So while we tried to preserve the same "drag to reveal" mechanism on the web as on the mobile, it's not as delightful as we'd like it to be. And I've felt this annoyance myself, and that's why this user's suggestion resonated with me so much, and immediately put this feature on the top of our priority list!
Click to Reveal Quick Actions
Today, we have rolled out a new version of the HeroMode web app. Now, to reveal the quest quick actions, simply click on the quest card. Click on the left hand side of the card to reveal the quick actions on the left hand side. Click on the right hand side of the card to reveal the quick actions on the right hand side. And, to go to the quest detail page, simply click on the middle of the quest card.
In our testing, we've found this new mechanism to be much more intuitive and smooth. We hope you'll let us know what you think!
Deprecation: Drag to Sort
In this release, we have also started to deprecate the "drag to sort" quest prioritization mechanism. Ever since we released the "pin to top" feature, users have found pinning to be a much more convenient way to prioritize quests. In comparison, dragging to sort is a bit cumbersome, and having two mechanisms to prioritize quests can be confusing.
So, in this release, we have removed the "drag to sort" feature on web. Over time, we will also remove this feature from Chrome Extension and mobile app. If you have any feedback on this, please let us know!
